Meet The Maker

LauraAnn Treasures From Ireland

Have you ever watched the movie “The Wizard of Oz” and you hear Judy Garland say over and over “There's no place like home, There's no place like home, that’s how I felt when I was living in the USA.

My name is Laura and I embarked on the adventure of my life when I was awarded a soccer scholarship to North Carolina, USA. I travelled to the US as a mature student at the age of 24 and decided to grab the opportunity to depart Dublin, Ireland to experience new pastures across the Atlantic Sea.

I am the eldest of five children so that was a big thing in itself. I would miss the comradery of my sisters and my brother and the hectic loving household I grew up in. However, I decided this would be an opportunity I could not pass up.

I arrived in America a very naïve girl and the vastness of the countryside just blew my mind. I was welcomed with open arms. The generosity of the people was remarkable.  They just could not do enough for me. In America, people respect dedication, commitment and good work ethics. These attributes were instilled in me by my family from a very early age. I felt appreciated and part of a large college family-like community.

My passion in life was soccer. I loved the game. I came to life on the soccer pitch. It was like everything in life stood still when I crossed the white line onto the pitch. My happiest times were spent on that green turf.

Even though I was extremely happy with my life choices, my heart was broken inside, my heart was still in Ireland, my mother's voice, my sister's laughs and my father's advice. I missed them all. I was torn between America and Ireland, but I was here to complete my studies and to better myself. I envisioned rainy days, the dewy air, green leaves on the tress and the forty shades of green in the fields. I longed for them all. I wanted to pack my bags and run for home, but my mother's reassuring voice rang in my ear reminding me to seize my opportunities.

I graduated college and worked Stateside for a while before returning to Ireland. I have always been grateful for the experiences that my time in America afforded me but also imagined the possible opportunities had I stayed. I left with a raft of emotions but was fortunate to have taken home newfound confidence in myself. That new confidence made me believe in myself and made me want to achieve more in life.

Now as I enter the beginning of summer, I am again reminiscing over my feelings of loneliness for home, of wanting something with me every day something close to me that reminded me of home.

That one life adventure ended for me, that incredible experience has inspired me to invest time into my new enterprise with my sister Jo more than 20 years on.

Joining up with my sister Jo was a no brainer. Her creative talent and great work ethic inspired me more to get on board with her.

The importance of belonging, family, and love inspired by my time away motivated me to create a collection of mementoes from Ireland, luxury items to remind us of home. There is a symbol of home in each collection, walks in the woods and adventures with my dog Ralph.

We hope these keepsakes will remind you of home, for now, our story is still unfolding.

“Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends.”

Bring a little bit of home with you wherever your life opportunity takes you or yours!
